Guanyin China, circa 16th - 17th century Wood with remains of polychromy and gilding. H. 74 cm Beautiful representation of the Bodhisattva Guanyin/ Avalokiteshvara seated in vajraparyanka at the heart of a blossoming lotus supported by a pedestal. His raised right hand makes the gesture of argumentation or explanation of Buddhist doctrine, vitarka mudra. A cavity intended to house a consecration consecration is present on the back, and an inscription engraved on the back of the pedestal is still partially still partially visible under the pigments.
