Theater mask Japan, Edo period (1603 - 1868) Wood, plaster and pigments. H. 28 cm Interesting mask featuring an unusual character with realistic features under developed eyebrows, and featuring veins in relief on the forehead. It clearly clearly falls into the category of Otoko male characters, perhaps a particular form of Kagekiyo, a former great fighter exiled fighter reduced to begging.
