Padmavati (Padmāvatī ) India Copper alloy, H. 10.5 cm Padmavati is a deity of the Jain pantheon. She is the Sasanadevata accompanying Parsvanatha, the twenty-third thirthankara of this tradition. Parsvanatha, identifiable by the naga hood that serves as his canopy can be identified at the top of the goddess's headdress, where she brandishing a noose, a sting and a fruit. A naga running up along her back unfurls its hood above Parsvanatha. Superb surface wear attesting to very long veneration. Provenance : - French private collection
