Buddha
Myanmar (Burma) circa 19th century
Lacquered wood H. 78 cm
This depiction of a crowned and adorned Buddha holding the earth

Buddha's transformation into a universal ruler in order to convert
ruler to convert the arrogant King Jambupati by humbling him
humble before him. According to some sources, this legend was created
to justify the creation of Buddha images adorned in Theravada
